Undergoing a gastric bypass surgery alters the eating patterns of people such that they eat less high fat food. This has been revealed after a study of people who had undergone gastric bypass surgery.
The study was conducted by the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Goteborg, Sweden which suggested a new mechanism due to which some types of gastric bypass surgery led to long term weight loss. In the study some obese people were randomly assigned to two groups: one which had undergone gastric bypass surgery and the other who had undergone gastroplasty. Based on questionnaires it was found out that the group containing the bypass surgery patients had a major decrease in the proportion of fat in their diets in 6 years after their surgery.
According to lead researcher Dr Carel le Roux, the patients somehow become wary of junk food after their surgery because they don't like it anymore. If the researchers can find out the reason for this then they might help people prevent such situations.
